52 Reasons to Love a Vet is dedicated to all veterans throughout the years with the deepest respect and gratitude for their service.
Additionally, it is with great sadness that I also dedicate this book to artist Jeffrey K. Fisher who unexpectedly passed away in November 2014. His generous spirit will live on through his art (Jack of Clubs).
Heartfelt thanks to The Hunterdon Healthcare Foundation for supporting this project, to the participating artists, to Dr. James Broderick, Associate Professor of English at NJCU for his time in editing the copy, and to Gary Gordon, NJCU Information Technology webmaster, for the creation and maintenance of 52ReasonsToLoveAVet.org website.
George Orwell said: “We sleep safely in our beds because rough men (and women) stand ready in the night to visit violence on those that would do us harm.” But who then stands ready to take care of those same men and women upon their return when they are all too often disabled, disillusioned, or disheartened? They leave and time has a way of standing still. Loved ones expect the same person to return who was seen off to war so many months before. But night terrors and haunting memories often plague vets upon their return. Physical and mental disabilities and instabilities are all too common. You cannot un-ring a bell, and you cannot un-see the sights of war. All too often veterans return home and are unable to find or are simply denied services. As a society, we should be compelled to rectify this situation. The 52 Reasons to Love a Vet restricted fund, housed in the Hunterdon Healthcare Foundation, aims to do just that. This fund solely benefits veterans by financially assisting them in furthering their education and/or assisting with medical, dental or mental health resources. Many world-renowned artists and illustrators have joined forces and created an original editorial visual statement illustrating their thoughts on either war or veterans. Limited edition playing cards, prints and books are available for sale, with proceeds benefitting this fund. Donations can be mailed directly to The Hunterdon Healthcare Foundation, 9100 Wescott Dr. Suite 202, Flemington, NJ 08822. Please be certain to designate “Love a Vet” on your donation.
52 Ways to Love a Vet is a 501(c)3 fund.
