When I meet veterans and ask them about their tours of duty, none of them want to talk about it. Not a single one, even after buying them a few rounds at the bar. I can’t even imagine what veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan may have experienced. I only know from what I’ve seen on the big screen. To experience those things in real life is something else. I wanted to illustrate the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan abstractly, like a giant sand storm of color and energy, but with our soldiers moving towards it bravely, truly not knowing what lies ahead of them.
