Hunterdon County, Flemington, N.J. — The Hunterdon Healthcare Foundation, is excited to announce the Valentine’s Day launch of a new fund called “52 Reasons to Love a Vet.”
Its name is derived from 52 playing cards in a deck that will show original artwork created by world-renowned illustrators specifically for this cause. This collection of work will travel throughout NJ to raise awareness and the playing cards, as well as prints, posters and books will be sold to raise funds. All merchandise will be available at receptions around the State and through the website at www.52reasonstoloveavet.org.
The fund was conceived by Ella Rue, an award winning artist and designer, whose son Justin Eyet is a veteran of both the Iraq and Afghan wars. Upon his return, Ella realized that governmental support for returning veterans often falls short in the areas of health and educational services. This fund was initiated to provide temporary supplemental assistance in those areas. The support is provided in the form of $1000 cash awards based on certain criteria outlined in the application. Applicants can download an application and instructions at www.52reasonstoloveavet.org. Applications will be accepted throughout the year and awards will be made twice per year in April and October. Deadline information can be found on the website.
“Our veterans are an important part of our community. The Hunterdon Healthcare Foundation believes that “52 Reasons to Love a Vet” will offer much needed supplemental assistance to New Jersey based veterans to improve their access to healthcare and educational resources,” stated Christopher Sickels, Executive Vice President, Hunterdon Healthcare Foundation.
The fund has raised in excess of $12,500 to date. Donors include: New Jersey City University, Jersey City; Fairmount Presbyterian Church, Califon, NJ; Raritan Valley Community College, Branchburg, NJ; Community First Bank, Somerset, NJ; RTE Enterprises, Califon, NJ; and Hunterdon Preparatory School, Annandale, NJ, as well as many individuals supportive of this cause.
Donations and merchandise purchases can be made online at www.52reasonstoloveavet.org. Donations via check can be sent to Hunterdon Healthcare Foundation, 9100 Wescott Dr. Suite 201, Flemington, NJ. Please designate “Love a Vet” in the memo.
